COURSE: Master the Beast – Get Out of AUTO
30 June @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Who is the boss? You are! – And if not yet, then you will be after taking part in this 7-part weekly photo walk course. The camera is a mighty beast but it can be easily tamed, coaxed and gently persuaded to follow your command.
This course will get you up to speed and give you the essential practical skills to get the best from your camera, both technically and creatively. You’ll learn how to really understand how the camera works, with opportunities to receive feedback on your images throughout the course.
We will be debunking some camera club myths too!
WHO IS IT FOR:
Anyone who wants to brush up on her camera skills and feel more empowered with solid knowledge. By mastering the camera, you will always know what settings and lenses to use. Even using auto will be easier because you’ll know what’s going on. The menu systems won’t be quite so overwhelming. You probably have some knowledge already, but we are diving deeper, and making sure any gaps in your knowledge are filled, while having a fun and chatty evening at the same time. I have a LADIES-ONLY version running on Mondays.
WHAT WE WILL COVER:
Each 2 hr session will involve a sit-down chat and photo walk where we explore the topics below and more:
SESSION 1: Understanding exposure – How to get off auto, learn how the light meter actually ‘thinks’
SESSION 2: Aperture – Controlling depth of field, finding the sharpest setting for your lenses
SESSION 3: Shutter speed – From freezing action to long exposure light trails, and what is the slowest shutter for a sharp photo when holding the camera?
SESSION 4: ISO – Getting the best exposure in darker conditions, seeing how colours start to look different at higher ISO, is noise and grain good or bad?
SESSION 5: White balance – Understanding the colour of light and how to have creative fun with it
SESSION 6: Lenses and focal lengths – How they affect perspective and depth of field, choosing the right shutter speed
SESSION 7: Image settings – Formats, sizes, resolutions and colour spaces
WHAT TO BRING:
You must have a DSLR or mirrorless camera with manual settings. A 50mm lens or kit lens for the first session.
