SUMMARY:WORKSHOP: Style Council
DESCRIPTION:East London is home to many council estates but they are slowly being pulled down and replaced. They are little worlds of their own\, with long walkways\, strange staircases\, odd nooks and crannies. Some might say they are dystopian. I find their abundance of concrete shapes and forms a truly insipiring place to experiment with composition – where we think in terms of lines and bold shapes rather than detail. Our gorgeous model is on hand to be inserted into these abstract compositions\, and we will look at how we can create bold environmental portraits. \n\n\n\nThe model emulates the starkness of the surrounding architecture with her pose\n\n\n\nWHO IS IT FOR:\n\n\n\nAnyone who would love to get a more cinematic and dramatic feel to their portraiture and want to learn a bit more about how to create good compositions. It is best to know how to use your camera in M (manual) mode and understand exposure – the relationship between shutter speed\, aperture and ISO\, but it’s not essential as this knowledge develops over time. Grete will be on hand for tips and suggestions\, some technical\, some artistic. After all\, if a photo doesn’t make you feel something\, then all the technique in the world can’t make up for it. \n\n\n\nWHAT TO BRING:\n\n\n\nCamera\, and a 50mm lens. Let’s keep it simple this time and travel light\, but it’s not mandatory of course. A 50mm lens mimics how our eyes see things – nothing gets distorted. So if you spot something that looks good\, it will look the same in the photo. Your eye should always be your main camera!Feel free to bring your own soft filters like Pro Mist or Cinebloom etc\, but we also have them on hand for you to try. We might also have a little play with speedlights as the sun begins to set in order to add some extra punch to our portraits. Let me know if you need to borrow one\, we can provide Sony\, Canon and Nikon. \n\n\n\nWHERE:\n\n\n\nOld Street / Hoxton\, East London area. The precise location will be revealed once you have booked\, but Old Street is the nearest tube station. Parking by meter. \n\n\n\nTICKETS:\n\n\n\n£95. We’ll be a small group of 6 for this one so hurry up and book! We have a 2 bookings minimum for going ahead with the event. See our FAQ page for more info. \n\n\n\nCONTACT / RSVP:\n\n\n\nGrete on 07885899908 grete@ghjstudio.com for any questionsIan on ‭07775 933371‬ \n\n\n\nFUTURE EVENTS:\n\n\n\nSign up to my NEWSLETTER to get notified about future GHJ EXPLORE workshops\, photo walks and photo trips around the UK and abroad.

SUMMARY:WORKSHOP: Pier Pressure
DESCRIPTION:MORE DETAILS TO FOLLOW | DATE MAY CHANGE | NO TICKETS YET\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The Pier is Southend\, Southend is the Pier” (Sir John Betjeman\, English poet and broadcaster). We will be zooming in on the pier’s mesmerizing Adventure Island fun park. The dizzy rides and dazzling lights will form our backdrop. Our model will be a true local Southend girl\, adding yet more cultural colour to our scene. For this one we will be trying to make the most of the lights and movements of the rides while using handheld or on-camera flash for a pop of light on our model. Our scenes and camera angles will be a bit edgy\, a bit cheeky\, a bit Essex in every possible way. \n\n\n\nWHO IS IT FOR:\n\n\n\nAnyone who would love to get a more cinematic and dramatic feel while creating environmental portraits. It is best to know how to use your camera in M (manual) mode and understand exposure – the relationship between shutter speed\, aperture and ISO\, but it’s not essential as this knowledge develops over time. Kit lens is also ok\, we work with what we’ve got. We will provide some lighting too and maybe even some smoke if the venue allows it!Feel free to bring your own soft filters like Pro Mist or Cinebloom etc\, but we also have them on hand for you to try. \n\n\n\nWHERE:\n\n\n\nSouthend PierSouthend-on-Sea\, Essex \n\n\n\nTICKETS:\n\n\n\n£95.
